Eligibility
Joyner Library is pleased to supply libraries and other organizations across North Carolina and around the world with access to our collections. Individuals should contact their university or public library to place requests or use a commercial document delivery service.
Submitting Requests
We prefer to receive requests through the OCLC Resource Sharing system to OCLC library code ERE. If you cannot access the OCLC network, please create a Joyner Lending ILLiad account and then enter your requests through that interface; doing so will increase accuracy and delivery speed. If you do not think you will make future requests from Joyner Library, you may instead submit an ALA form or an IFLA form by fax +1-252-328-6618 or e-mail jis@ecu.edu. We will not accept telephone requests because of the amount of information needed for a request and the likelihood of transcription error. ECU’s Laupus Health Sciences Library has its own ILL department.
Due Dates and Renewals
Books and microfilm are loaned for 120 days with renewals considered on a case-by-case basis. Audiovisual items (CDs, DVDs, etc.) are loaned for 30 days with renewals not permitted. Refer to the paperwork we send with the loaned material for the due date and restrictions. All loaned materials may be recalled for use by our patrons.
Fees
Copies and loans are free for North Carolina libraries that lend to us for free. Copies are also free to our partner libraries in KUDZU, ASERL, LVIS, SO6 (SIXX), and RAPID Academic E & Academic I pods. Loans are also free to our partner libraries in KUDZU, ASERL, LVIS, Lyra, Soline, and RAPID Academic E & Academic I pods.
Unless another amount has been negotiated, copy fees for non-consortial libraries and businesses are $15.00 and loan fees for non-consortial US, Canadian, and Mexican libraries and businesses are $20. Loan fees for other countries are $50, which includes international shipping costs.
We participate in OCLC’s IFM service and encourage all payments to be made via this service. We will periodically invoice for non-IFM charges and will accept payment by credit cards (VISA and MasterCard), checks, and IFLA vouchers (one full voucher for an article and four full vouchers for a loan, which includes air mail shipping). To pay by credit card online, visit our online payment site.
Expedited Shipping
Loans to KUDZU participants and UNC system libraries are shipped by UPS. Public institutions within North Carolina (e.g. public libraries, community colleges, and state agencies) will receive materials through the state courier system unless we are otherwise notified. Loans to other domestic institutions are shipped at library rate through the US Postal Service. Loans to international locations will be shipped air mail through the US Postal Service. If expedited shipping is desired to any location, domestic or international, contact us; we can easily ship using your UPS account if it is provided.

Due to policy restrictions, Joyner Library does not usually provide the following material types to other libraries. Members of the University of North Carolina system and KUDZU consortium have special access to some of these restricted materials; if you are a member, please contact us for details. If we are unable to loan a printed item, we usually can photocopy sections thereof within reason and copyright restrictions. While we generally are willing to loan materials to non-US libraries, please note that we may not always be able to do so. Copyright compliance must be indicated on all requests for photocopied or scanned materials. We reserve the right to refuse any request that may infringe copyright laws and guidelines.
