Cooperative Lending Agreements: Borrowing from other Libraries in North Carolina

ECU students, faculty, and staff may borrow materials directly from any of the other UNC System libraries via the University of North Carolina Cooperative Direct Borrowing Agreement and from the other libraries listed below with which ECU has borrowing agreements. If you would like another institution considered to be added to the list, please email Joyner Library Circulation & Interlibrary Loan.

To borrow from another library listed below, you will need to register at that library by showing your ECU 1 Card or ECU distance education ID card. If a library would like to verify your enrollment/employment at ECU, it may call the ECU Joyner Library Circulation desk at 252-328-6518.

To see what other libraries own, search WorldCat or the library’s individual catalog. Each library sets its own policies for materials, due dates, renewals, and fines; ask at its Circulation desk for details. Borrowed items should be returned to the owning library by their due date, or you can bring them to Joyner Library’s Circulation desk for our Interlibrary Loan service to ship the items back for you (any late fees or lost/damaged items are your responsibility).

In addition to granting in-person borrowing privileges without a borrower registration fee, some participating libraries will also provide access to their electronic resources (if allowed by their licenses), their computers or wi-fi network (if allowed by their IT operations), reference services, and study spaces. Each library determines what it can provide to visitors, so ask for details at their Circulation desk.

To ensure the library is open to visitors when you want to visit, you are advised to check their website or call them in advance. Be sure to obey parking restrictions at each library’s campus when you visit.

If you are a student, faculty, or staff member from another UNC System library or from any of the other institutions listed below, you may borrow materials from ECU Joyner Library, Music Library, or Laupus Health Sciences Library. Please present your current college/university identification card and a valid driver license or other valid pictured identification card at the Circulation desk and we will create an account for you after you complete a borrower agreement form. You will gain borrowing privileges as well as guest access to our desktop computers and wi-fi, on-campus access to the library’s electronic resources, reference services, and study spaces (if not reserved by an ECU patron). Please consult the borrowing procedures for Joyner/Music Libraries and Laupus Library for details about what can be borrowed, loan periods, and fine rates. Please consult the hours pages for Joyner Library Circulation and Laupus Library before coming to visit. For parking options, visit ECU Parking & Transportation; these include hourly parking in the parking garage beside Joyner Library for $1/hour and pay by space parking near Laupus Library.
