Joyner Library and the School of Art & Design present “dataSTEAM”

East Carolina University’s School of Art and Design and Joyner Library will present the “dataSTEAM” exhibition at the Janice Hardison Faulkner Gallery in ECU’s Joyner Library from March 30 to May 31.

The exhibition highlights artists who work directly with scientists to contextualize data in their art, bringing visual data into a fine art gallery setting to facilitate conversations among students, faculty and the community about how artists and scientists can collaborate.

Students and faculty from art and design, biology, chemistry, biochemistry and molecular biology, and the Honors College formed teams to develop data-based artwork for the exhibition.

Visiting artists Scott Groniger from the University of Hawaii-Manoa and Dornith Doherty from the University of North Texas will present during the opening weekend. Groniger’s lecture will be Friday, March 31, at 4 p.m. while Doherty will speak Saturday, April 1, at 5 p.m. in Speight Auditorium in Jenkins Fine Art Center on the ECU campus.

An opening reception will be held Friday, March 31 at 5:30 p.m. in the Janice Hardison Faulkner Gallery on the 2nd floor of Joyner Library.
