W. Keats Sparrow Writing Award Submissions Sought

Student research papers eligible for award.

The W. Keats Sparrow Writing Award recognizes excellence in research and writing by students in East Carolina University’s English 1100 and 2201 composition classes. The award is sponsored by the Friends of Joyner Library and is named in honor of Dr. W. Keats Sparrow, Professor Emeritus of English and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

The first place award recipient will receive $500; second place, $300; and third place, $150.

Research papers written for an ECU English 1100 or 2201 class during the summer 2018, fall 2018 or spring 2019 semesters are eligible. Papers must include a research component using Joyner Library’s resources. Submissions may be made by the student or by an instructor (with the student writer’s permission).

The deadline for submissions is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019.
