A brief program begins at 5:30, including a presentation by Larry Houston, Rare Book Conservator for Joyner Library, on The Moseley Map, An East Carolina Treasure.

In 1733, Edward Moseley, a planter, chief justice, book collector, politician and surveyor created “A New and Correct Map of the Province of North Carolina.” Found in an attic in Edenton, NC, Joyner Library’s Moseley map is one of three original copies of this map known to exist in the world. The Moseley map extends from Cape Carteret to parts of Virginia and is instrumental in putting this infant region on paper. Houston will discuss its history and the work being undertaken to preserve it.

The Friends of Joyner Library was established to foster the role of Joyner Library as a university and global resource. The Friends sponsor programs focused on raising awareness of the library’s resources and support fundraising activities to develop and preserve collection development and facility upgrades.
