"You Are the Illustrator," by Award Winning Children's Illustrator Gordon C. James - Saturday, February 23, 2:30-3:30pm

Join illustrator Gordon C. James as he reads his award-winning book, Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut, and discusses his illustration process. James will also lead attendees through a fun activity, illustrating an imaginary book. He’ll discuss different ways to think about the sentences and guide attendees in creating an illustration for the lines.

Crown: An Ode to the Fresh Cut, written by Derrick Barnes, has won more than 10 national book awards including the Randolph Caldecott Medal, the John Newbery Medal, the Coretta Scott King Book Award and the Ezra Jack Keats Book Award. James’ latest children’s book, Let ‘Er Buck: George Fletcher, the People’s Champion, written by Vaunda Micheaux Nelson, was released earlier this month.

James resides in Charlotte, NC, with his wife Ingrid, their children Astrid and Gabriel and their dog Rascal.
