One Search and Classic Catalog

Most of our materials can be found using either One Search or our Library Catalog. If you have a general topic or if you’re searching for ideas, use One Search to find materials. Use our Research Guide on One Search for tips on using One Search.

If you are looking for something specific, use the Library Catalog. You can limit your search to a specific collection, such as Joyner Special Collections, or sub-collection, such as Stuart Wright Collection.

Manuscript Collection Guides

A collection guide is an inventory of a specific collection of materials. It describes the different parts of the collection and their relationships to one another, as well as provides background information. Collection guides also provide a detailed list of a collection’s contents. The collection guide enables you to see exactly what items we have and request them by box number and folder title.

Our manuscript collection contains over 1800 collections of historical documentation including correspondence, diaries, business records, organizational records, church records, maps, genealogy notes, photographs, and oral history memoirs. Guides to all collections are available.

Rare Books

If you’re looking for rare books, you can limit your search by using the Library Catalog.

Digital Collections

Digital Collections is your gateway to thousands of images, texts, and recordings from the Joyner Library’s rich holdings. You can use the Digital Collections to choose an artifact if you like, or to assist you in your artifact research.

North Carolina Periodicals Index

The North Carolina Periodicals Index is an in-house database produced by the staff of the North Carolina Collection. The index provides access to articles in regional publications that pertain to a wide range of North Carolina-related topics, including the arts, business, culture, history, law, natural resources, public policy, tourism, and travel.  The articles included have been selected with an eye toward supporting undergraduate research.

Coverage includes 68 current and historic publications, most of which are not indexed in standard reference tools.  Content coverage is selective as articles must be at least a page in length to be included. Initial coverage began in January, 1992, but retrospective coverage of historically important titles extends to the 1930s.

All materials are available for use in the Verona Joyner Langford North Carolina Collection. Some results are available full text and can be accessed via the NCPI Alphabetical Subject List page.

North Carolina Newspapers on Microfilm

The North Carolina Collection provides researchers access to both current and historic newspapers published in the state. This is a collection of over 10,000 rolls of microfilm containing issues dating back to 1751. The microfilm can be viewed in the NCC’s microfilm room (3rd floor) on one of their four microfilm readers.
