Manuscripts Showcase Exhibit

With the start of a new semester, Special Collections has installed a brand-new exhibit throughout Joyner Library! This exhibit highlights the departments that curate/work with Special Collections materials, and showcases a wide variety of items from our collections. To celebrate the new exhibit, we will be featuring a series of blog posts about each of the participating departments.  Up next is Manuscripts!

Step Into History at the Special Collections Showcase!

History doesn’t just sit on a shelf—it buzzes, hums, and sings (especially if you’re a telegraph key!). Join us on the 4th floor of Joyner Library (yes, there is one!) for the Manuscripts portion of the Special Collections Showcase, open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Explore treasures that tell captivating stories: a telegraph key brimming with secrets, vintage sheet music, a digital exhibit, and handwritten correspondence.

While you’re here, take a deeper dive into the East Carolina Manuscript Collection. From naval history and worldwide missionary activities to North Carolina’s rich cultural tapestry, our holdings span centuries and countless stories. Discover tales of soldiers, sailors, tobacconists, and more, with materials from every American war since 1846. One of our friendly experts is always happy to help you on your quest!

Whether you’re a history buff, a curious mind, or just love a good pun, there’s something here for everyone. Stop by and let history take the spotlight—you might even get a message from ‘The Duke’ himself!
