Updated Special Collections Research Room Procedures
Need to use a rare book or any of our archival materials for research? We’ve recently made some changes that you’ll need to know! Check out the information below for how to request materials, our current hours, directions & parking, and what’s currently happening in Special Collections.
Requesting Material
Effective March 3rd, 2026, use of archival materials and rare books in the Special Collections Research Room will be available by appointment only. We will work with current ECU faculty and students to accommodate walk-in requests if possible. All other bookings will need to be made at least 12 hours in advance. Please contact Special Collections at https://library.ecu.edu/specialcollections/ask-a-librarian/ for more information or if you have any questions.
The Special Collections Research Room is currently limited to four researchers at a time. Each collection guide contains a link to request materials that you wish to view in person. To request materials you wish to view in person, get started here.

Nothing’s changed! Please make sure you check the calendar before you come, just in case.
Directions & Parking
Our reading room is in the North Carolina Collection on the third floor of Joyner Library. Once in the library, you can use our Wayfinder to help you find the North Carolina Collection.
