New Exhibit: Poets and Poetry of East Carolina University

University History and Records’s new exhibit features items from our collection to celebrate National Poetry Month this upcoming April. We are highlighting the poetry of former East Carolina faculty, particularly Julia Fields, Julie Fay, Peter Makuck, and Vernon Ward, and the poetry journals published here, including the North Carolina Literary Review, The Rebel, and Tar River Poetry.  

Peter Makuck and Vernon Ward served as editors of Tar River Poetry, and Julie Fay organized the Writers Reading Series. The North Carolina Literary Review publishes works, including poetry, by North Carolina writers or set in North Carolina, while Tar River Poetry features poets from across the world. The Rebel features creative works including poetry by East Carolina students.  

The exhibit will be on display in the front lobby of Joyner Library’s first floor through the end of the spring semester.
