New Exhibit: “Celebrating 100 Years of The East Carolinian”
We are excited to announce the opening of a new exhibit about the 100-year history of our student-run campus newspaper, currently named The East Carolinian. This exhibit was curated collaboratively between the University History and Records staff and The East Carolinian staff advisors. The exhibit walks visitors through a century of campus and local events and the paper’s evolution into the one faculty, staff, and students read today. It will be on display during fall semester in Joyner Library’s first floor main hallway.
There will also be a celebratory luncheon on November 7th in the Main Campus Student Center’s Black Box Theatre. Mark Kemp, an ECU graduate and recently retired journalist, will be the speaker. More details and information about tickets will be announced in the coming weeks.
Additionally, the newspaper’s student leaders launched a monthly podcast for this special year featuring former editors. You can find the podcast, event information, and historic articles and photographs online at https://www.piratemedia1.com/theeastcarolinian/100/. Event information will also be shared via the Pirate Media 1 email list. Anyone can email piratemedia1@ecu.edu to be added.
You can also view an (almost) complete run of the newspaper online in the library’s Digital Collections.
