Lights, Camera, Library!

Libraries often serve as film locations and, unsurprisingly, in scenes usually needing a room filled with books. Think Harry Potter, Ghostbusters, and Desk Set, among others.

However – plot twist! – this July, Joyner Library’s Special Collections temporarily converted into a therapist office for a collaborative film between ECU’s College of Allied Health Sciences and the School of Art and Design. The library fourth floor underwent a serious short-term reshape. (Yes, Joyner Library has a fourth floor. C’mon up and visit sometime! We’ll give you a tour.)

Our break room became the makeup trailer, our foyer the waiting room, and one office served as a consultation space. With all the equipment, actors, film crew, and stakeholders, it was a bustling place!

The grant is from the North Carolina Governor Highway Safety Program, a continuing project to decrease crash fatalities.

The short video is about medically at-risk drivers and is currently in post-production, but, once released, we’re excited to see Special Collections under the guise of a medical facility! Below are a few screen grabs from the raw footage of the film.
