Halloween Hauntings from Special Collections

As the weather turns colder and the days grow shorter, the staff of Special Collections wanted to provide everyone a treat this Halloween by offering up an assortment of collections and resources related to All Hallows Eve.

Are you wanting to frighten all the ghosts and ghouls with some truly terrifying tales this Halloween? Then check out these spooky “true” North Carolina tales that are sure to make you want to leave the lights on. These and other horrifying legends can be found in the North Carolina Collections.

Looking for more haunting tales that will make your hair stand on its end? The Karen Baldwin Folklore Archive found in the East Carolina Manuscripts Collections contains many a blood-curdling tale recorded by students in their coursework for the Folklore Course taught in the English Department. Listen to our very own North Carolina Collections Librarian, Jennifer Daugherty, talk about the collection and the terrifying story of the Maco light, as taken from the Archive here. (Jennifer Daugherty’s talk begins at the 2:00 hour mark)
