Revisit the September 11, 2001 Student Reactions Digital Exhibit
Today marks the 19th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, deadly terrorist attack on U.S. soil when two planes were flown into the Twin Towers in the World Trade Center Complex. The attack resulted in 2,977 deaths and more than 6,000 people were injured. Dr. Karen Zipf tasked her two “Women in American History” classes with putting their thoughts to paper on how they felt in the aftermath of the attacks. Students agreed to donate their essays to the East Carolina University Manuscripts Collection to share and preserve the reflections of students during those scary times. The essays were compiled and made into a digital exhibit available in the Digital Collections. As a historic worldwide pandemic continues to affect ECU, North Carolina, and the world, this might be the time to revisit the exhibit and reflect on the feelings of those who faced a different terrifying event nineteen years ago.
