Returning Library Material

During this time when the ECU libraries are physically closed, please refer to the information on this page for returning library materials. Due dates are extended until August 31.

There are three ways to return library materials: using our book drops, mailing the items to us, and scheduling a drop-off with a librarian.

A fourth option exists for music students, staff, and faculty with access to the Fletcher music building: you may place returned materials on the purple book cart located inside the building at the front entrance of the music library.

Book Drop

There are five book drop locations on the ECU campus. View here on Google Maps. You may return Joyner, Music, or Laupus materials to any of these book drops. This includes interlibrary loan items. However, laptops and equipment should be returned by appointment with a library staff member. Please do not put equipment in the book drops.

Joyner Library

There is a drive-up book drop located at the Old Cafeteria Complex on the main campus near the Joyner Library. From 5th Street, turn on Founders Drive and then right onto Faculty Way. Take the first left on Cupola Ct and the book drop is on the left-hand side. There is also a book drop at the Joyner Library building. It is to the left of the main entrance directly across from the water wall.

Music Library

There is a book drop along the sidewalk between the A. J. Fletcher Music Center courtyard and the Brewster Building C-Wing entrance.

Laupus Health Sciences Library

You can drive up to the book drop located in the parking lot outside the library. There is also a book drop located directly outside the doors to the library at the top of the stairs next to the drink/snack machines.

Mailing Library Material

You may return materials by mail. Please contact circulation@ecu.edu or jis@ecu.edu to request a prepaid UPS return label to ship materials back to us at the library’s expense. It is fine if it is multiple shipments or one large one.

Schedule a Drop-Off

You may also schedule a drop-off time with our library staff. This option is available if you have a sizable amount of materials to return at one time. To schedule a drop-off at Joyner, contact circulation@ecu.edu. To schedule a drop-off at the Music Library, contact musiclibrary@ecu.edu.

Safety

Before returning library items, please observe the following safe-handling practices:

Do not clean, disinfect, or microwave library materials before returning them. For example, do not use water, Lysol, or any other cleaner on materials.
If you or your family members are sick or have been sick, seal materials in a zip-lock style bag if possible before returning.
Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before handling library materials for return and again after you have completed the return.
