Alternative Textbook Program applications open through March 27

Applications are open for the 2026-27 Alternative Textbook Program.

Faculty proposals will be accepted through March 27, 2026. Apply at the Alternative Textbook Program website, which also has full details on the options and financial awards. The Alternative Textbook Program supports faculty who want to replace their current course materials with open textbooks, library-licensed resources or other no-cost materials.

Learn more about the program by attending the information session March 3 at 2 p.m. on Teams. Questions can be directed to Joyner Library at scholarlycomm@ecu.edu.

Co-led by librarians Jeanne Hoover and Allison Kaefring, the program pairs personal librarians with faculty members to support faculty in integrating open educational resources, open access materials and hybrid resources into their classes, which reduces costs and customizes materials for students.

Program participants receive:

  • Personalized librarian support to help identify course materials and navigate copyright questions
  • Summer workshops covering topics such as using open educational resources and building accessible, customized course materials
  • A financial award based on the option selected: Adoption, Adaptation or Creation.
